What a delightful little sci-fi piece. I'm usually pretty discerning about these simple pieces of literature, and I will admit, if it hadn't been for the poem, "When Places Call" (a beautiful poem) I might not have read it. But the poem was perfect for this and I wanted to see how it was used in this writing. if you are looking for depth and intriguing story lines, no, this isn't it, but read it with an open mind, keep thoughts simple, the poem in your head, and read it with a sense of childlike adventure. It won't take long to get thru and if you don't give it a try just remember..."adventure finds only those who leap".Product details

It is a long established literary convention that the leads of a romance/adventure story may be rascals but cannot be villains and it is a convention I strongly believe in.
Page one of the story, the lead intentionally kills a number of innocent people. For me the story ends there with many unkind thoughts for its author and readers.

I think I love a good sci-fi. When I read this book, I kept making it better. In my mind.
I felt that an outer space badass could have had more to bring to the table, a diobolical antagonist could have been more antagonizing until we realize he's not.
What does the song say? A little less conversation, a lot more action?
"When Places Call" is a wonderful induction to the sprawling, well crafted universe the author has created. With beautifully flawed characters, a love of aviation lacing the pages, and at its core a transforming love story. This is a book you should definitely read
It was an enjoyable novella, I'm glad I read it.
I have never heard of this poem, but thought the book premise sounded interesting and it was free. It was a good book -- well-written, VERY original in content and unpredictable in its plot. I never knew where the book was going and I liked the ending (and the entire "message" of the book), so it was an enjoyable read.
It is a good short story. More interesting and better written than I expected. The editing was better than I usually encounter in short free stories.
This is story more interested in emotional connection than sexual interactions ( what a nice change). As such my only complaint is that there was not more development of the characters to explore the emotional connection. Also some the conclusions and transitions were abrupt ..... but it is a short story and work well within the constraints of its length
